True Blood Monday~The Modern Vampire

Ahhh. The Modern Vampire. Over at TrueBloodNet there was a great article on Vampires. Here are some excerpts from it and feel free to hop over at True Blood Net to catch the full article.

We are surrounded by vampires. They now roam among us. What began with Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula, published in 1897, has now evolved into the trendy Twilight sensation of Edward Cullen and Charlaine Harris‘ Southern Vampire Mysteries, which has, in the capable hands of Alan Ball, been translated into the hit HBO TV series True Blood.

By the way, my husband is Team Dracula and told me to read Bram Stoker's version. Ahh. Maybe. We'll see if I can muster up the energy to do so. I am a big Edgar Allen Poe fan and if I can read Poe, I'm sure I can read Stoker. Now going back to the topic of trend and Vampires. It is true they are in the 'now' at this moment. We obviously can thank Twilight for bringing the passion and love for Vampires back into the hearts of those who love the supernatural. Yes True Blood aired earlier on in the year but True Blood in my opinion really didn't pick up it's following till Season 1 came out on DVD. I think many True Blood fans (at least the newer fans) are actually Twilight fans that were looking for more because they love Vampires so much. Many immediately started reading the SVM books and tried to watch True Blood episodes. As a Twilight fan just getting into True Blood, I admit the first few episodes of Season 1 were really just odd and weird. It wasn't till mid Season that I realized how wonderful the show is. Maybe it was the developing love story between Bill and Sookie that made me want more. Of course there is that other Vampire Eric.. Needless to say, trend or not. I'm loving the Modern Vampir whatever that may be.

It seems that today’s vampires are more intent on wooing us than draining us dry. Rather than eating us, the modern vampire of Bon Temps seems to prefer stalking, seducing and sleeping with us. They are now brooding, insecure, introspective, angst-ridden and romantic, a dangerously attractive kind of decadent aristocrat. And while Dracula was not a looker, Stoker did set the sexual tone of the vampire. Vampires have now progressed from outsiders to becoming objects of desire, famed for their powers of seduction.

Well no shit sherlock. Maybe when they look like Edward Cullen or Eric Northman. Actually, when I watch Dracula (the one with Gary Oldman), I admit the story is good though my husband had to explain a lot of it to me and then I end up confusing myself because I wonder how much Stoker was influenced by real life Vlad the Impaler (which is a whole nother post altogether).

The vampires in True Blood are charismatic, powerful, dangerous and devilish. Not only are they beautiful, immortal but they are titillatingly libidinous. They can defeat death, seduce anyone of their choosing, obliterate their enemies, play yahtzee and stay up all night.

Just say it. True Blood fucking rocks. There's no need to go on and on. I will say out of the three Vampire shows or movies that I love, True Blood-The Vampire Diaries-Twilight. True Blood to me has the best adaptation of Vampire culture since Anne Rice which to me will always be my favorite Vampire author. *You can see I like my Vampires Bad* (I love you still Edward. I do!!) But today is about Eric!

Drink my dear.
You will need energy.

Just wait for me in bed.

Unicooooorns!
*Thank you AHungryVampire for these photos!! For Schizzel!

honestly the only reason I was open to discovering the Twilight phenomenon in the first place was my original love/lust for vampires that stemmed from Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel and that cult classic The Lost Boys...Twilight soon followed as did the smexiness that is Eric Northman and TrueBlood!!!
